About

Artist Statement:

My name is Daniel Smith. I am a fine artist with Asperger’s syndrome. My wonderful girlfriend Eve is also an aspiring artist. I’m situated in Co. Kerry and my artwork is currently dedicated to my creations – the Tweedles.

Tweedles are mechanical creatures that scavenge materials to build new machines. My sculptures are made in a similar fashion, using found materials and twisted wire.

My current works explore the Tweedles and the strange and dangerous world they inhabit.

Through my work I attempt to gain an understanding of the Tweedles I have created, exploring the relationship they have with the world and their creators. I want to understand how these Tweedles would think,  feel and interact with their surroundings.

  1. I really like your work! I have Asperger’s too and I’m an aspiring artist from Ireland. You can view my work here: http://siuloir-na-scamaill.deviantart.com/gallery/53864640/Drawings-and-Paintings

    • Thanks! I took a look at your work! The attention to detail in your work is amazing, but subtle enough not to be too overwhelmed with detail either! And you have a nice style! 🙂 You’re a great artist!

      • Thank you! I really like your work too, it reminds me a little of Leonora Carrington’s work. Do you take inspiration from the Surrealist Art Movement?

        • Sorry for the very late reply, I’ve been spending a lot more of my internet time elsewhere now.
I see! I don’t take influence from the Surrealist movement intentionally, but maybe my subconscious has picked up a little from it. 🙂

  2. I’m so proud of you! I love you! ❤

  3. Hey Daniel 😀

I know you never do the awards but I’ve nominated you anyway 😀 Here’s the link if you’re interested.. http://sereneaspergia.wordpress.com/2014/07/17/the-butterfly-light-award-goes-to/

    All the best,

    Maria.

    • Thanks! I thought I was getting too many awards so I’ll have to politely decline your award nomination, but thanks so much for the kind offer! 🙂 Congrats on getting nominated yourself!

    Hey Daniel, Long time!

I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award 😀 Details are over on my blog, please accept 🙂 For rules please check: http://versatilebloggeraward.wordpress.com/

    All the best! x

    • Thanks so much!! 🙂 I’m afraid I don’t accept blogging awards anymore (my awards page explains why) but I really appreciate the thought! If I did accept it, I’d nominate you back, so in a way you’ve won it twice! 🙂 Thanks again.

  5. lostinthelabyrinthh

    Hey!
    Hope all is well…

Just to let you know I have nominated you for The Super Sweet Blogging award which I hope you will accept 🙂 The rules can be found at this link:
    http://lostinthelabyrinthh.wordpress.com/

    Congratulations! 🙂

    • Thanks so much!! 🙂 I appreciate the award, but I can no longer accept it due to my current policy with blogging awards (as seen on my awards page), and I’ve already received that award so it doesn’t feel fair for those who don’t have it yet.
I’m so happy that you feel like nominating me for an award and thanks again!! 🙂

  6. Hey! Just letting you know that I have nominated you for the Liebster Blog Award, visit my blog for the rules of accepting the nomination, Jazz x

    • Thank you sooo much for the awards!! 🙂 I really appreciate how much you like my blog! I have, however, recently made the decision to stop participating in blogging awards for reasons listed on my awards page. Despite my decision, you’ve certainly brightened my day and I thank you once again!! 🙂

  11. Thanks for stopping by and for the like! I love frogs too!

  12. How could you be anything but wonderful if you love frogs! Keep painting. Thanks for stopping by and liking my work.

  13. Hi Daniel. Thanks for your input and for following my blog. I appreciate it.

    • I really like the photos. Some are thought-provoking and others seem to leave you wondering how the photographer captured it, so I thought it was definitely worth following your blog! Thanks for stopping and I hope you like my art! 🙂

  14. Hi there! So glad you visited purelysubjective and even gladder you found something you like. 🙂 I commend you on your openness and your commitment to art. It’s a practice, and, like you said, for life. I’m constantly on the road of discovery and always glad to find travel buddies. Also, I’m a fan of frogs myself. You probably know this, but it’s always blown my mind that their musculature is more similar in structure to humans than any other non-ape-related animal. Cool stuff…look forward to seeing more as it unfolds! Oh, and good luck with the Tate. I’m often shy of saying it, but my private dream has always been a show at the MoMA in New York.

  15. Hi Daniel! I am an art advisor in the US, and I also happen to have 2 kids with autism spectrum disorders, so I was VERY excited to see your work and read your posts!! Let’s stay in touch as you get your career started. Maybe I can help! 🙂

Hi Daniel, thanks for dropping by. I really liked your post describing your thoughts during the process of painting. Colors are something I tried my hand and realized I am better off with pencils :). Nice going!!

  17. Thanks for dropping by my blog and liking a few things…. I think yours is very interesting so if you don’t mind I’ll be popping back every now and again to have read..

    Regards. Stephen

  18. Just wanted to let you know that I nominated you for the Reader Appreciation Award 🙂 You can find it here:
    http://thoughtsofalunatic.wordpress.com/2012/08/12/better-than-cheesecake-the-reader-appreciation-award/

    • Thank you soooooooooooooooo much! 🙂 I never thought I’d get an award so early into blogging! It’s kind of funny because I was looking at someone’s blog awards the other day and thought that if I ever got one I’d nominate your blog, but this makes it awkward since you can’t receive it twice. 🙂 Thanks again!

  19. I share your point of view regarding facebook. 🙂
Some day I might change my mind, but I am yet to be convinced…

  20. Hi! Thanks for the like on my post.
And good luck with your artventure. When it comes to art, it’s not just about drawing and drawing and practicing more and more, but it’s more to exploring your style and enriching your art reference…

    Greetings from Indonesia :))

  21. I like to be free too…and at 33 I am finally being creative full time and I do feel free and this feels amazing. I am just now putting my full attention to painting and drawing and creating, so I am not sure where it will lead but I do believe that if you feel drawn to this creative life then you will make it work out–beautifully. Thank you for your very honest words about yourself. I’m very interested to see what you create next.

    Vieve

  22. I look forward to seeing more of your art & learning more about you. The way you describe yourself reminds me a lot about myself 🙂
    Glad to find your blog!

  23. Nice pictures Daniel! Keep it up!

  24. As Maurice can also tell you, you never stop learning. Don’t ever lose the sense of wonder. Best wishes to you Daniel!

  25. Thanks for visiting my site. I viewed your work—you’re on the right track, and young. Tomorrow I’ll be 80.
